Sarcopenia


It’s the medical term for the relentless decrease in muscle mass as we age.  Muscle loss eventually leads to loss of function to do the enjoyable things in life such as play sports or play with grandchildren.  

The higher our muscle mass is when we are young the later in life we will experience the disabling consequences of sarcopenia.  Also, the later in life we start to try to slow it, the harder it is!

I am always thinking of my patients two ways.  The next ten years and their last ten years.  The last ten years is often referred to as the “marginal decade” in longevity circles of science.  

This month we will discuss 4 top ideas for improving and/or slowing the effects of muscle loss so that we can have an optimal next ten years and a much better last decade of life.
