Did You Know Chiropractic Care Isn’t Just for Backs?

Written By Summerside Chiropractic Clinic on June 30, 2021

Chiropractic TreatmentsIt’s widely known that chiropractic care is effective for improving spinal wellness. But did you know that chiropractors can treat a wide variety of ailments other than back pain? At Summerside Chiropractic, Drs. Morin, routinely work with patients suffering from various health issues ranging from migraines to extremity pain, and many more.

Headaches

Many patients seek chiropractic care for headache relief. Chiropractic is particularly effective for migraines and tension headaches. Tension headaches often originate in the neck, which means that cervical manipulation (neck spinal adjustments) and postural training from our chiropractors are effective treatments for headache relief.

Furthermore, there is a body of evidence proving chiropractic care works on migraines, such as a 2017 study that examined the effects of chiropractic adjustments on patients with migraines. It discovered that chiropractic care not only relieved migraine symptoms without the need for drugs, but that when the patients did experience migraine symptoms, their duration was significantly lessened.

Frozen Shoulder

Adhesive capsulitis, also known as frozen shoulder, is a painful condition that affects the shoulder joint. Patients suffer from pain and stiffness that progressively worsens and causes increasing difficulty with movement. It’s caused by the thickening of the connective tissue in the shoulder joint that restricts the movement of the tendons, ligaments, and bones. Medicated injections and surgery are possible treatment options, but there is a noninvasive, drug-free way to fix it. Chiropractic care can address frozen shoulder using multiple approaches.

First, a chiropractor at Summerside Chiropractic can manipulate the shoulder joint to restore proper function and movement. Secondly, chiropractic adjustments of the neck and upper middle back improve nerve communication to the shoulder. And third, our chiropractors can demonstrate stretches and exercises that patients can do at home to restore shoulder function, reduce pain, and increase range of motion.

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

De Quervain’s tenosynovitis causes pain, inflammation, and restricted motion of the thumb and the thumb side of the wrist. Without treatment, the condition will grow worse and affect a patient’s ability to use the thumb and move the wrist. One scientific study from 2012 found that chiropractic care and activity modification were successful in fully resolving symptoms and preventing future relapses.

Our chiropractors can effectively treat tenosynovitis using soft tissue therapies such as inferential therapy (gentle electrical stimulation), as well as extremity manipulation. We also help our patients learn stretching and strengthening exercises, and make ergonomic modifications that reduce the risk of a future recurrence of De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.

Effective Chiropractic Care in Edmonton

At Summerside Chiropractic, our chiropractors conduct thorough diagnostics (including nerve scans and x-rays) to get to the root of our patients’ health issues. By addressing the cause of health problems, rather than masking the symptoms, we help our patients live life better. Furthermore, while our patients may come to us for specific ailments, our chiropractors may also discover hidden health issues that can be treated to prevent future problems.
