This weeks Q & A with Dr. Darrell, we look at prevention.

To help prevent Osteo Arthritis (OA) why do adjustments need to be performed at regular intervals?

  1. A) if OA is found on x-ray it means the joint has been stuck a long time so they go back to those old habits easily
  2. B) when you see OA on an x-ray there always scar tissue that will prevent full motion
  3. C) there may be stressors in your life that re-cause the fixations
  4. D) ALL OF THE ABOVE

It's fairly common knowledge that stress is not good for Health! Stress, in all it's forms (Physical, Chemical or Emotional) causes chemical, hormonal and physcial changes in our body. One of the myriad of effects is fixations in the spinal column. Evidence of long term fixation can be seen on x-rays in the form of osteo artritis (OA). Once visible on x-ray, that function has been there for years!

There are other changes to the tissue in the area, such as scar tissue that is not visible on x-rays. For all of the above reasons, regular care is essential if you (and who wouldn't) want to prevent arthritis in your back.
