Ditch the White Stuff!

White flour, white pasta, white rice, and sugar.

These items spike your glucose and therefore also spikes your blood insulin. A spike in blood insulin causes your body to trigger fat storage!   Exchanging white for whole grain will bump up the fibre which will make you feel full and keeps you feeling full longer.  Combining a healthy fat like olive oil, avocado, fish and a protein will level out the carbohydrate absorption which mitigates the insulin spike.  Be careful of potatoes.  When you read nutrition info on them they are including the skin.  If you are peeling and mashing its a lot of starch which also has a very high glycemic index (sugar content).  I am wary of older potatoes especially if they are not organic because they have higher starch content and have been sprayed to prevent the eyes from growing roots.  New potatoes, skin on are the way to go but don’t go overboard on portions cause they are very calorie dense.

Exchange the above for more greens and only whole grains.  Get used to the feeling satisfied instead of feeling full after you eat.  A common denominator in populations of people who live long healthy lives is that they eat overall less calories.  Bumping up fiber by exchanging white stuff for less processed food is the best way to achieve that.
