The way elite athletes have been training for the last 15 years is filtering into the mainstream.  Functional training is where we combine fitness with balance in ways that help us improve our daily activities.  This is where we improve how we move to prevent injury which is more and more important the older we get.  When wellness based Chiropractors like me listen to how functional trainers talk about this type of training it brings me back to my neurology and anatomy days.   The mainstream is coming closer and closer to how Wellness based Chiropractors have thought about movement and its relationship to overall health for over a hundred years. Everything from the simple act of bending at the waist (not the knees) to balancing with your eyes closed on one leg are affected by stability.  


It can be the difference between one 75 year old having a minor stumble over a curb and the other 75 year old falling down and breaking a hip.  It can be trained and learned.  Professional skiers do it, F1 drivers do it, mountain bikers do it AND SO SHOULD YOU!
